Who is Allaah ?

Who is Allaah ?

Allaah is the proper name applied to the true God who exists necessarily by Himself comprising all the excellent Divine names and attributes of perfection. Allaah is One and Unique. He has no son, no partner, nor equal. He is the sole Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Every creature bears witness to His Oneness, Divinity, and Ruboobiyyah [Ruboobiyyah, inf. of Rubb], and to the uniqueness of His attributes and names.

His essence does not resemble the essences. He does not inhere in anything, nor does anything inhere in Him. “There is none like unto Him.” He is the One, the Sole, the Indivisible. He is the Rubb [Some translate the term ‘Rubb’ into ‘Lord’, the meaning of ‘Rubb’ is far more comprehensive than to be restricted to a single word such as ‘Lord’. Rubb, means, among other things, the Creator, the Sustainer, the Provider, and the One in whose hands is the disposal of all affairs], who accomplishes all affairs, Allaah is the Omnipotent and the Omniscient.

His knowledge comprehends in perfect manner all things, hidden or manifest. He is greater than can be encompassed by the knowledge of His creatures. He knows everything, and He is aware of all that takes place in the earth and the heavens. Allaah , the Supreme, is the Rubb of everything and has a free hand in disposal of all affairs. His mercy encompasses everything. He is far removed from injustice or tyranny. He is wise in all His actions, just in all His decrees. His justice ensures order in the universe in which nothing is out of order.

There is no one to share His dominion, nor does He take an aide or supporter from His creatures. He is nearer to man than man’s own jugular vein [TNQ 50:16].

Whenever a believer is in need or distress calls on Him, He responds. Allaah has revealed His final Scripture, the Qur’aan, to that last of His Messengers, Muhammed who was responsible for conveying the Message of Islam to mankind. He is the Exalted Allaah . Glory is due to Him.

Tawheed – The oneness of Allah

As Muslims we are all aware of the importance of ‘Tawheed’, as it is the first pillar of Islaam and the first article of iman, in fact, it is the greatest of them all, for the others merely follow on from it and are its offspring.

‘Tawheed’ is the single most important matter for which creation was created, Messengers were sent, books were revealed and upon which the correct path was built.

It is regrettable to find that many Muslims attach little importance and significance to Tawheed. While, they know about many aspect of Islaam but not really knowing what Tawheed is.

‘Tawheed’ is we testify that, ‘there is no deity worthy of worship other than Allaah [La Ilaaha ilallaah] – so he negates the worship of other than Allaah and affirms it to Him only.’

Tawheed can be divided into three categories.

  1. Tawheed ar-Ruboobeeyah (Monotheism of Lordship) – It is to single out Allaah in LORDSHIP, OWNERSHIP and singling out ALLAH ALONE as CREATOR, SUSUTAINER, DISPOSER, CHERISHER…
  2. Tawheed al-Ibaadah (Monothiesm of Worship) – It is to single out Allaah the Glorified with worship, by not presenting any form of worship to anything other than Allaah or to seek closeness to anything else as one seeks closeness to Allaah .
  3. Tawheed al-Asmaa-was-Sifaat (Monotheism in the Names and Attributes) – It is to single out Allaah the Majestic with His Names and Attributes that were mentioned in His Book or in the Sunnah of His Messenger by affirming what He Affirmed for Himself and negating what He negated for Himself without distorting them [Tahreef], nullifying their meanings [Ta’teel], delving into how they are [Takyeef], or comparing them with the creation [Tamtheel].

This is the religion that Allaah sent all His messengers with.

Worship and it’s conditions

An action cannot be regarded as an act of worship unless it meets two conditions, namely perfect love and perfect humility.

ALLAAH says:

But those who believe, love Allaah more (than anything else)Surah Al-Baqarah (2:165)

And they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before UsSurah Al-Anbiya (21:90)

If this is understood, then one will realize that worship is only accepted from a Muslim who believes in Allaah alone (Tawheed), as Allaah says of the disblievers:

And We shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners) did, and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dustSurah Al-Furqaan (25:23)

The Muslim’s worship will not be accepted unless it meets two basic conditions:

1- Sincerity of intention towards Allaah alone, which means that a person’s intention in all his words and actions, both outward and inward, is to do them for the sake of Allaah alone and no one else.

And who has (in mind) no favour from anyone to be paid back, Except to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most HighSurah Al-Layl (92:19-20)

And the Prophet {saw] said:

Allaah does not accept any deed except that which is done only for Him and to seek His Countenance (pleasure).Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 3140; classed as saheeh by Al-Albaani in Al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 52.

2- The action must be in accordance with the laws which Allaah has enjoined and stated that He must be worshipped only in accordance with them. This is achieved by following the Prophet and the message he brought, and not going against that or introducing new acts of worship or new forms of worship which were not reported from him .

ALLAH Says:

Say (O Muhammad to mankind): If you (really) love Allaah, then follow me, Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most MercifulSurah Aal Imraan (3:31)

The Messenger of Allaah said:

Whoever does any action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours will have it rejected.Narrated by Muslim, 1718

i.e., his deed will be thrown back at him and not accepted from him. If anyone goes against these two conditions (sincerity towards Allaah alone and following His laws) in any action, then he will not benefit from it. The one who seeks goodness and wants to please his Lord, let him worship Him and draw near to Him by the means that He has ordained for them.
